The First Dance of a married couple has always been a popular tradition in wedding celebrations. There are a plethora of popular First Dance wedding songs to choose from. Whether it be at the beginning of the reception or after dinner, it’s a way for the newlyweds to have their grand entrance that goes straight to the dance floor and for their guests to join them in celebrating. However, there are 5 more special dances that you should look into to make your wedding reception extra special!

1. Father Daughter Dance

Father Daughter Dance

This is a tradition from our friends across the pond in America. It’s a beautifully sentimental moment which displays public thanks for the first man in a Bride's life and for all he’s done. It’s a dance which is becoming more and more common at UK weddings... and there’s normally not a dry eye in the house!

2. Mother Son Dance

Just like the previous dance, it’s another tradition from the USA and it’s normally placed just after the Father Daughter Dance. Dads tend to do the ceremonial side of things, like the toasts and walking the daughter down the isle... this gives a fantastic moment for Mother and Son to share a special moment of their own.

3. Last Dance

This is a great opportunity to bring the whole of your wedding party together for one last time and say goodnight and thank you. Normally an slightly slower anthemic song, you’ll be sounded by your friends and family, singing at the top of their voices. It’s a great moment for all generations. This is also a fantastic time to bring back any grandparents onto the dance floor (who might not be jumping up and down all night), in what is essentially a big group hug.

4. Friends Dance

What’s that one song from when you and your friends were at school would always get you on the dance floor? Maybe the big hit from your school or university days? Why not ask your band to play it and recreate that moment. We often get asked to this and make sure all the Bridesmaids and Groomsmen are involved... All this helps to build an electric atmosphere you’ll remember for ever!

5. Dance Off

Dance off

This is a light humoured and highly memorable competition, normally between the guys and girls. It’s a great way of introducing a little bit of friendly rivalry and sheer unadulterated fun into your party. We warn you it can become quite a contest... make sure your photographer is there to catch some incredible photos! If you’re slightly more reserved you can always nominate some friends!
