Jazz at JW3

Were you in North London last Sunday afternoon and saw a band performing Jazz at JW3? If so, you were obviously at the grand launch of this amazing new Jewish Community Center!

Community

JW3 is a phenomenal new organization which Metropolis is very proud to be associated with. It’s aim is to ‘transform the Jewish landscape in London by helping to create a vibrant, diverse and proud community, inspired by and engaged in Jewish arts, culture and community’. Naturally when the opportunity to perform at such an important occasion occured, we welcomed it with open arms!

Jazz Quartet

The brief was to supply entertainment which was suitable for the bar area on a Sunday afternoon. The music needed to be loud enough so that guests were entertained but not so over bearing that they could not have a coherent conversation. A Jazz Quartet was the perfect option.Metropolis called upon the talents of legendary sax / wind multi-instrumentalist Stewart Curtis and pianist Mark Adelman, with Directors Toby Goodman & James Eager, on drums &  double bass respectively. We had a fabulous couple of hours playing swing classics, and well know Latin and soul favourites, to a packed bar of appreciative guests.

JW3 Jazz Concerts

Jazz is going to be a regular feature of the JW3 landscape. Part of the program is a monthly concert featuring some of the UKs finest jazz artists. The first couple of months start off with performances from vocalists Tina May and Ian Shaw. Setting the bar high, they certainly will not disappoint. Please keep an eye on the JW3 website for more information or follow their Jazz at JW3 Twitter feed.
